The Shine Cup 2025

19th July 2025

Rain Couldn’t Dampen Spirit

Despite the relentless rain, the annual Shine Cup went ahead as planned—and what a day it was! Communities, teams, performers, families, and supporters came out in force to celebrate a truly memorable event.

The day kicked off with the Mini Shine Cup, where Wright Way Sports, Barton United, Hykeham Tigers, and Scotter Juniors battled through the downpour. All teams gave it their all, but it was Scotter Juniors who emerged undefeated and were crowned champions.

While the football raged on outside, the Danceathon brought energy indoors, with nearly 30 children from Wright Way Sports and Education showing off their moves. Meanwhile, young aspiring players enjoyed a free football taster session on the pitch. Performances continued indoors due to the weather, featuring talent from Wright Way groups, Beth and Hannah, and the dynamic duo Kaius and Devon.

The main event, the Shine Cup, saw reigning champs Wright Way defend their title against BHF in tough conditions. Wright Way struck first just before halftime, thanks to a well-worked move involving Dan Carrick and Nathan Wright finished by captain Brad Wright. BHF equalised in the second half, and a penalty by Wright put his team ahead again, Wright Way were digging deep to keep BHF at bay with some resilient defending by Kettlewell, Stenton, William and Drury with some fantastic keeping by Cowan but BHF levelled in the dying seconds to force a shootout.

After a thrilling game and dramatic penalties, BHF edged out Wright Way 5–4 to take home the Shine Cup 2025.

Despite the weather, it was a fantastic day filled with community, competition, and true sporting spirit—classic British summer and all!
